Learn

Over the past couple of years, Poor Girl Eats Well has not only become a great resource for tasty recipes and tips on how to cut back on food costs; it’s has also proved to be a good way for the novice cook to learn a few basics to help make cooking a little less daunting.  I’ve received many emails from readers who have told me they learned how to cook by following the recipes I post here on PGEW (which is beyond awesome & flattering!), but I still get several from folks who just aren’t sure how to go about cooking some of the less conventional things I feature in my recipes.

So I decided to create the Learn section, to help solve some of these kitchen mysteries for novices and those who are returning to the kitchen after a long hiatus.  Though it’s still a work in progress, I wanted to feature the absolute basics.

  • The Basic Recipes & Cooking Methods section covers things like how to make crepes (which are regularly featured on PGEW) and how to cook my favorite grain: quinoa.

  • The Glossary defines some of the herbs & spices new cooks might not be familiar with, and deciphers a bit of my own shorthand.

  • Lastly, for those who are more advanced and want to take their cooking skills to the next level, I’ve compiled a list of top culinary schools from around the nation which offer degrees & certificates in culinary arts, pastry arts, and more.

As Poor Girl Eats Well continues to expand, I will be adding more to this section of the site.  For now, please feel free to browse around, and if you have any suggestions or questions on how to do this or that, just shoot me an email and I’ll see about getting that information on here as well.

Happy Learning!
